Dara and Liam would have to be one of the sweetest couples I have ever met. When Dara initially contacted me about photographing their classic Mount Lofty House wedding I remember her being so excited I was available. It is always the best feeling when someone just falls in love with your wedding photography and has to have you and no one else, you know that they have that trust and their photos will be epic.
When I looked back on Dara and Liam’s wedding to do this post, all these memories came flooding back of this gorgeous day. These two seriously are so in love you can see it in all their photos. I still remember photographing their first dance and holding back tears. Liam was singing the song to Dara and had this look in his eyes of love, happiness and awe of his bride. It was simply devine.
Here are some words from Dara and Liam on working with me:
How has your experience been with Lucinda May Photography?
Lucinda has been amazing right from the get go! She was the first supplier we booked in for our wedding besides our venue, and if Lucinda wasn’t available, I would’ve moved our wedding date to her availability! We just had to have her after seeing her beautiful work. Having a wedding that was impacted by Covid, when it all started to come to light and it was all a big unknown, and the Government started to put caps and bans on weddings, Lucinda was the first supplier to reach out to us and let us know that she would happily work with us to change our date free of charge, or downgrade our package deal to an elopement for our original date. I think it shows a testament to Lucinda’s character and compassion for her couples.
Why would you recommend Lucinda May Photography to friends?
Why wouldn’t I? The second we saw Lucinda’s work, we had to have her shoot our wedding. In an industry that is saturated with fantastic photographers, if you see a style that you love, book them in! I found that when I was looking through sample albums of other suppliers, I would like one or two photos, but looking through Lucinda’s, I struggled to find photos I disliked. Lucinda had the natural, candid style I was looking for, and she was such a gem to work with. When we first booked her in, we were living interstate, and she was great at communication, I felt at ease to reach out to her with any queries I had. I often tell people that when looking at photographers I felt like I was comparing apples with oranges, everyone offers such different package deals and different inclusions that others don’t. At the end of the day, you want to get beautiful images of your wedding, so while other photographers were offering different inclusions such as albums, framed prints etc., focus on the style of photography and make sure you’re happy with it. Albums, prints etc. can all be purchased at a later date.
What beautiful products did you invest in from Lucinda May Photography and why?
We will be purchasing a few prints and an album. We have to decide on our favourite prints first, a hard task as they are all so beautiful!
Can you give any tips for couples on how to prepare for the wedding photos?
Trust your photographer to capture the shots, they will give you direction. If there are certain shots you want, tell them in advance so they can get them. If budget allows, do an engagement shoot so you can feel comfortable getting your photos taken.
How did you two love birds meet?
We met on a random night out at The Archer in North Adelaide.
Who popped the question and how did it happen? Was it a surprise? Spill…
We were living in Sydney at the time, and Liam was adamant that we had to get out of the house for the day. As it was leading into Christmas, there were things I wanted to get done and was very against getting out of the house. He tried to get me to go to Palm Beach (where Home and Away is filmed) and I wasn’t at all keen on the idea! He ended up convincing me to go see the Christmas Markets in The Rocks. When we got there, he completely bypassed the markets and said we should go to the Botanic Gardens for a “nice walk”. He took me to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, which overlooks the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge and proposed there.
How long was your engagement & how long did you have to plan your wedding and did you plan the wedding yourself?
Our engagement was meant to be 18-months, but due to Covid, it stemmed out to 22-months. Despite living in Sydney, and Liam from Ireland, we decided to get married in my home town of Adelaide. We planned the wedding ourselves.
Were you nervous walking down the aisle?
Surprisingly not! I thought I’d be an emotional wreck walking down the aisle, I’m not sure if it would’ve been different if our original date had gone ahead, but I was completely fine.
What was your favourite moment(s) from your beautiful wedding day?1. Our first dance; just getting lost in each others eyes and completely forgetting we had all of our guests watching. 2. After our couple photos we had 15 minutes to be together before needing to start getting ready to make our way into the reception. Make sure to plan this time into your day, it goes by so quickly and you’re pulled in lots of directions – I’ll treasure that time we got to have together in private. 3. Looking back on our wedding photos, I can see the reaction on our faces when we locked eyes as I was walking down the aisle. I can’t remember the moment, but the smiles in the photos say it all.
How would you describe your overall wedding day experience?
We honestly had the best day! Our suppliers were fantastic and the day went so smoothly.
What advice would you offer to other couples planning a wedding?
Find out if there is a pandemic happening that will make you have to plan your day twice!! haha. Plan for the unexpected; things will go wrong, it’s part of life, don’t let it ruin your day. For everything that went wrong in the lead up to the day, we had the most smoothest and perfect day. But at the end of the day, if things do go wrong on the day, you’re the only one who will know that something is out of place. Don’t let it ruin your day.
Where did you escape to for your honeymoon? Would you recommend it to other couples?
We went to Kangaroo Island for a week, and when we can travel internationally again, we will take our original intended Maldives honeymoon.
