One of the most common worries I hear from couples is will it rain on their wedding day.
I’ve been shooting weddings for over 10 years now and have photographed through pretty much all that mother nature could throw at you on your day.
I thought I would ease your mind by collating a few of my favourite wedding images that feature rain and providing some tips to prepare. Rain really isn’t as bad as you may think most of the time it doesn’t last all day and the effects it creates for photography can be amazing.
Some tips to prepare for the possibility of a wet wedding day:
- Buy some clear umbrellas. I usually have these tucked away in the back of my car but if you have a big bridal party I would suggest purchasing some extras. Clear umbrellas work so well as they still let in the light around you but keep you nice and dry. They don’t have to be expensive either, these Kmart ones are great and only $15.
- If you are choosing a ceremony venue that is outdoors do they have a back up plan if it rains. Can you bring the wedding ceremony inside? Think about this before booking in your venue.
- Bring a spare pair of shoes! If it rains and you are keen to get out and still have some amazing wedding photos out in nature then you definitely need a spare pair of shoes. Nobody wants to be squishing around in their shoes at the reception. Umbrellas do much but they don’t save your feet from the ground.
- If you don’t want to get out in the rain think about locations for your photos that can be indoors or undercover that have good light. Usually your wedding photographer will be able to advise on some spots for wet weather or your venue may have a cellar etc. that you could snuggle up in for some photos.
At the end of the day a little rain never hurt anyone and I have been told many times it is good luck on your wedding day. Your wedding day will be amazing no matter what the weather brings.
